The Sportsman 2 side panels are an updated version of our earlier Sportsman side panels.
They include 42 laser cut aluminum parts that are formed with CNC equipment to assure a precise fit.
This relatively complex combination of parts fits together like a puzzle to form the side panel system.
All of the large pieces are attached using mechanical methods.
This provides a secure and accurate fit.
Also, all fasteners are hidden for a cleaner look.
With the improvements that have been made, these are now superior in most ways to our Aviator side panels.
When compared to our Aviator side panels they weigh 16% less for the complete package.
They take away almost no passenger space.
They are much easier to install, and the parts fit more precisely.
None of the side panel parts are bare or painted metal.
All parts come completely upholstered and ready to install out of the box.
But, the biggest improvement is a lot of built in storage space to help keep your RV neat and organized.
Pockets

Over the years, many customers have told us they wanted additional storage areas that are convenient to access while in flight.
That's why the Sportsman 2 side panels have a lot more storage than any of our previous panels.
The forward pockets are great for keeping those small items that can easily get lost, or the things you would rather take out of your pockets on longer flights (keys, wallet, etc.).
The large side pockets can store bulkier items over 2" thick, and about 15" long.
The picture above shows an example of what can fit (it would actually hold more, but we couldn't think of anything else).
A full size Ipad 1 with a hard case fits easily with quite a bit of room to spare.
This pocket is set back under the armrest to take advantage of that open space, but it also includes a back wall to avoid any interference with the rudder cable.
The side pockets in the baggage area are a good spot for less frequently used items that you don't want sliding around the baggage floor (spare oil, tie-downs, chocks, first aid, oil rags, etc.).
The last picture shows the items that will fit in the baggage side pockets.
Of course these pictures only show one side of the plane.
You still have the other side with the same amount of storage.
Gear weldment covers

The Sportsman 2 side panels also include covers to enclose the landing gear weldments.
These are made out of durable Kydex plastic (very tough, and meets FAA flammability requirements).
It only takes a few minutes to install these using existing screws.
The fit is very precise because all of the pieces are made using CNC processes.
The covers are finished in carpet to match our other carpeted pieces.
Color Layout
The side panels can be made using any of our stock materials (cloth, synthetic leather, or natural leather). There are several ways the colors can be laid out. Material types can also be mixed (example: synthetic leather with cloth for the pleated area). The first diagram below shows the areas that the side panels are divided up into. The other diagrams show some color layout ideas.The examples are shown in shades of gray, but any colors can be selected.
